Art After School

Art After School began in 2006 and is a highly successful outreach program for children and young people who are in first grade or higher. Art is the medium for nurturing imagination, building community, and encouraging creativity. Most of all, Art After School is fun! In 2014, over 25 youngsters from Walpole and Alstead participated in the program and used pencils, pens, oil pastels, acrylic paints, clay, “recycled” materials, and collage elements, to create art work, and as a result, strong self-esteem.

Art After School is led by St. John’s rector, the Rev. Susan Kershaw, and professional fiber artist Racheal Scott. Susan and Racheal are ably assisted by adult associates. All adults in the program complete diocesan Safe Church Training.

St. John’s generously supports Art After School through the offer of the use of the Parish Hall, along with all utilities and bookkeeping services. We are grateful to J. C. Hubbard for a generous grant that helps make this program a reality. Donations of any kind, made out to St. John’s Church – Art After School, are appreciated and help us to continue to offer this program tuition-free so that no child is ever turned away from full participation.

Art After School meets on Wednesday afternoons, 3:15 – 5:00 pm, whenever school is in session.
